KKR ANNOUNCES STRENGTHENING OF EUROPEAN TEAM

London, 30 January 2002 - Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co Limited (KKR) is pleased to announce two senior appointments to enhance its European business and to strengthen its capability in the German market.

Dr Axel Eckhardt will head Capstone Europe, a management consultancy that will be retained exclusively by KKR to provide advice, strategic input and management services on KKR's potential and ongoing investments.

Reinhard Gorenflos will join KKR as a Director in KKR's London office having held senior management positions in German industry over the past decade.

Dr Eckhardt has spent almost 20 years in management consultancy with McKinsey & Co (13 years) and most recently with Droege & Comp AG (6 years). Prior to joining Droege, Dr Eckhardt acquired a construction and engineering company, the Elpro Co AG in Berlin, focused on plant automation and technical facility management which he ran for four years.

Following his graduation from Harvard, Reinhard Gorenflos spent two years as a management consultant before moving into industry with Thyssen where he was Managing Director of the fast-growing Industrial Services Divison. For the past three years Gorenflos was a Member of the Executive Board and Chief Financial Officer of ARAL, the number one Central European gas station operator.
